The Harry Page Cup
was won by Ryhope after a fantastic match with St Cuthbert's.
Ryhope scored with their very first attack but were soon
pegged back
when St Cuthbert's scored a spectacular volleyed goal.
Ryhope restored their lead and then
scored again to go into half-time with a 3-1 lead. Defences
were on top for the early part of the second half
but then St Cuthbert's managed to break through on two occasions
to bring the scores level. At 3-3, it was anyone's game and
both sides had chances to win it. With the clock ticking
down, a cross from the Ryhope right wing found an
attacker on the edge of the box and his
shot passed three defenders and the ball found its way into the
St Cuthbert's net. There was little time for St Cuthbert's to stage
another fightback and the final whistle was soon blown to leave Ryhope winners by
four goals to three. It was a brilliant game and
credit to the players from both teams for providing such an exciting
and entertaining game for the
crowd.

The Ian
Gustard Cup was won by St Mary Magdalen's after a hard-fought
and entertaing match with Seaham Trinity. The first half was a
nail-biting affair with both sides creating chances but
neither could find a way to break down two excellent defences
and two goalkeepers on top of their form. St Mary's broke the
deadlock with an excellent team goal. Trinity fought hard to
get back into the game but then St
Mary's scored again to double their lead. Trinity could
have easily given up at this point but, instead, they
doubled their efforts and scored a fantastic goal with
a long-range shot which almost burst the net. There was just time for
one more effort on the St Mary's goal but the brilliant St
Mary's defence held firm and
the final whistle sounded before
Trinity could mount another telling attack. It was an excellent
game between two very good sides and both teams can be very
proud of their
performances.
